When doing a project like this I must rely on the parts catalog sometimes......and every once and a while the part numbers are not correct. I NEVER trust the pics because Audi recycles pictures for other "similar" models. I was sure when I saw the part that it was not right. I had placed the correct rubber grommet on the reservoir before I had ordered this "securing pin" so thanks for the responses and reaffirming my belief.

Your parts catalog is very old - but new versions apparently just repeat that mistake, probably first made in 1994 with the introduction of the RS2, or maybe earlier in the A80Q catalog.

I'm using v7 and it is also wrong, but if you look up a 1994 80q with a v6 engine it seems to be correct.

Good sleuthing there mcandmar. Now it is "Item 31" (not "29") and, by luck, I had correctly guessed the PN involved, i.e. not 431129668A but 431129669, "grommet". Illustration 422-60. A80Q, 1994.

Old? What makes you say that?

I thought the format looked very old. I *now* realize that what you posted was not a screen image but a scan of a hard copy you had. The hard copy looks like a very old version but I now understand that the new screen images still print in the old format.

                Carry on.

I figured that was why. It's v.7, BTW. I do however have other PCs running v.5 still so I can look up NLA part numbers.

Actually I didn't scan it, that is what my dad might do.......and then fax it.

It's "printed" to a jpeg image directly. This creates a smaller file than a screen shot does, which is important to us IT nerds.

86K for yours versus 346K for the one I found and posted.

See I knew you had *some* computer skills.

BTW, bought the latest CAR mag last week while over at Goodwood which contains a nice RS article. RS2, B5 RS4, B7 RS4 avant, RS6, etc. I can scan a copy for you if you like.

I sometimes take chances when ordering parts just based on what the parts catalog says. Sometime I hit a home run and sometimes, well, I don't........like the securing pins from a few posts back (see here). This is another one of those "shot in the dark" purchases. I'm pretty sure it fits on the RS2/S2 avant somewhere, but not sure exactly. The parts catalog diagram doesn't give up many clues.

Can anyone tell me where this one fits. A picture is . That is, of course, unless yours has rotted away.

Looks like an exhaust heat shield, similar to the one at the front of the car where the fuel lines run up at the bulkhead.... Im probably wrong though.....

I've found a spot that looks like it would be the place under the car in between the gearbox and the tunnel, but i would have to bend it to make it fit. I figured I would ask my forum buddies before I went and bent the shield.
