I think yours was AR 0.63, same as mine??Yeah I'm sure my coldside was AR .50 on the GT3071, what difference will it make?
In 3/4/5th I saw 1bar @3,000rpm in the 3B, always found it very driveable though obviously i did have to get used to losing the instant punch low down. Will be interesting to see what this stroked beast does with it, 2.0bar boost from 3-6k and a bit less at the redline i imagine?
Mihnea held the low down boost back on mine so as to control the surge at around 4k. Its on stock cams and pistons.Comment

I get full boost at 3200 RPM with the GT3071R 0.63AR. I can imagine this could be lowered with a ported head and a tubular EM, but not much more then say 2700-2800 RPM? I think you will get surge issues.Comment

Not sure yet. I really want to keep the air box but I'm not quite as brave ( daft?! ) as Jamo to try cutting up my RS2 airbox. I'm going to get the engine in position then decide what to do with the MAF/airbox.sigpic

I thought you was my mate

I've made it fit btw, had to do the Bram mod to the air box and then cut and newsh mod the 034 hose.
I would say Andy it wouldn't work for you as your coldside is bigger and further towards the wing.
I have like a 0-1mm between airbox shield and the cold sideComment

Not much progress on the engine but the bodywork has taken a turn for the better, after 3years of owning the car I finally think it’s at a stage where I can show it off. When I bought the car it had been key’d down both sides and the front nearside and rear offside wings were both rusty. The front wing I fixed myself but the rear was beyond my skills. So I let Rob ( GT500 ) sort it out. He had to cut away the edge and fabricate a new one, then weld it in place before repainting the rear quarter and driver door. The results are fantastic. I’ve spend most of this weekend detailing the whole car and it look amazing now, not concours by a long way but 100% better than it was. For the detailing guru’s out there the car was first washed using the one bucket method! I then used Meg’s paint cleaner, followed by Meg’s polish. It was then finished off with a couple of coats of Finish Kare FK1000P sealant.
Results can be seen here on page 88, post 1319:-

No way! It will be surging badly if it can even produce full boost at 2200 which i doubt. Would love to be proved wrong. GT series turbos are very prone to surge (hence why they do there "anti-surge" housings). However the abilitly to run high boost to the redline is ace and thats how you make the power.
2bar redline is too much for that small hotside to be running effieciently (i would think). The golf is using a 0.8 hotside on a 2008cc engine with cams and tubular manifold and peak boost is at about 3300 (1.5 bar)
All i can say is no matter what you do, DO NOT go for the internal WG version.sigpic

indeed. I would say that effective boost to keep running on the GT3071 would be about 1.8bar to the redline.Even with that and the 0.63AR you are below the 0.80lamda which would give more hp so if knock is not an issue you still have lots of backpressure because of the small turbine.
im running on 1.8bar about 0.74lamda up to the 6500rpm mark, and then go to 0.72 lamda only for EGT purposes. With OEM RS2 cams not really usefull above those rpms anyway to keep the high boost going. With these figures i get about 890 to 920C on the turbo hotside.Comment
