I had my wastegate stuck intermittently but only when warm engine which the ss piston would expand and catch the guide as the spring wouldn't allow any movement. In the end it has stayed in the fully open position.
    That's true

And I have seen plenty "refurbished" wastegates where the tolerances were too tight, so they seized when they got hot.

Possible if you do the things wrong

And I was talking about common very used and worn wastegates like the 99%. They could works in the beginning but they fails very soon once you start boosting hard.

You have some interesting statistics, but out of the cars I have worked on so far few have had WG issues.
I also don't really see how the amount of boost pressure you run affects the wastegate wear.

      • I know is not amount of boost I only know that most of the cars I have seen has had wastegate problems once they removed stock turbo.

Maybe because the new boost addiction because the upgrade.

I hope Andy can fix it the cheapest as possible as I did myself with the wastegate spacer inside the spring. Don't you remember?

        • Turns out it was a split inlet hose between the intercooler and the inlet manifold, specifically on the ISV branch of the hose.

An exhaust gasket has also burnt out, which explains the louder-than-normal noise i was hearing from the engine bay

I've yet to see if fixing these problems has solved the original boosting issue on gear change but will see when i pick the car up from VRS.

          • Hope the replacement parts fix it up for you

I had the exhaust manifold come loose and leak past the gasket. The problem was the studs had loosened with vibration, rather than the new lock nuts...

            • Carsten has kindly sent me a replacement hose for the car and in the meantime Will has fixed it up and replaced the gasket, so the car is at least holding boost again now!

The previous boost issues are still occurring however, namely intermittent lag particularly noticeable after changing gears.

I've logged some data from Zeitronix which seems to show some pretty interesting stuff...

Dmitri is over in a few weeks, so hopefully some of this can be cleared up then.

                • Boost seems a bit lazy indeed sometimes.
It's odd though, because on a long pull it's fine.

I need to log the N75 duty cycle off of the ECU and see what's going on.
Haven't really seen such behavior before, as usually boost corresponds quite well to a certain WGFV duty.

                  • Isn't the mixture a bit too rich for the higher revs? Where is the EGT sensor located?

                    • Looks a bit rich, but depends also where the WBO2 is located...

                      • The wb O2 sensor is very close to the nb O2 just after the first bend in the down pipe.

Also for all the logs above the dv is blocked off.

                        • Or is that the egt after the bend.. Hmm will have to check!

I thing both O2 sensors are next to each other.

                            • If the DV is blocked off that explains the rich mixture.
The air gets pushed back out through the MAF as you slam shut the throttle, and then back into it, and this results in higher MAF readings....

It can also result in the ECU thinking that there is an overboost condition because the pressure ramps very quickly... would be nice if the DV would be put back in place.
