If it is running mega rich on idle, something else is wrong.
You never mentioned this until now.
But I am glad we are getting somewhere.

What you are writing is sporadic. At one point you say it's running rich under boost, then you are saying it's running rich on idle, then you are saying "AFR is fine with the other ECU", but it is not up to you to decide whether "AFR is fine".

It is running very rich on idle during the first couple of minutes (whilst it is spitting out lots of smoke)... after this it is fine. Idle is 14.7 when the car is warm on idle.

With regards to the oil level, would lots of fuel have gone into the oil past the rings by running the car so rich for 1300 miles? (Just a thought)

From what I have read in the PM Ross sent me, it seemed as if it was oil smoke.
If it is fuel smoke, it is a different question.

If I had even a single third gear pull log to look at, it is likely I could diagnose most of the problem.

But it is most likely a boost leak somewhere. Car doesn't boost and runs rich on boost.
The fact that it runs 11.5 AFR with 1.3 bar with Ross' ECU just further shows the problem.

Do the following at the same time:
1. Put ZT2 logging.
2. Put VAG-COM logging Group 000 and Group 001
3. Do a 3rd gear pull.

Stop both logs, post them up/send them to me.

Also, the only thing that can be wrong with the ECU is R201, if I somehow forgot to change it. It wouldn't explain why your car runs 11.5 AFR with Ross' ECU though.
You can measure and verify it via pin 7 and 25 on the ecu, according to the guide posted at 034:

Yes, you can. I will try to look at my schedule and see where I can fit it in.
But it's hard, because tuning 20 year old cars does not really pay your bills. Not even close.

Most probably you are running rich on idle till the Lambda is heated up and then tries to sort the overfuelling out.

Most of the time white smoke is from oil and black from rich on fuel.

I think all the people here are trying to help you so instead of making accusations on each other take the time and check these things you didn't check till now. If I may put them in an order here and If I was at your position I would do the following:

1. Make the logs Prj asked for (since you trust him with your ECU let him take a look at the data he needs)
2. Measure that resistor he mentioned
3. Do a leakdown test or at least a compression test on the engine
4. Measure fuel pressure and change/check CLT sensor

That's exactly what is happening...
But also in the file that he has, the EV14 fuel compensation is a bit rich with cold weather.
Not 10 AFR rich though, else Ross would have the same problem.

These cars start quite rich from factory. Like 11.8 AFR when you start them in rather cold weather... so if you have high fuel pressure it will easily go to 10 AFR ...

Have to agree with getting the Zeitronix up and running. I believe it can also monitor fuel pressure with the right sensor. Much safer monitoring it electrically than mechanically!
People have mentioned the cam timing but I was worried about the pulley. More specifically the hall sensor wheel. There is a comparsion picture somewhere on here with the different relative positions of the wheel. My understanding is that the RS2 pulley changes the position of the gap relative to the ABY, presumably to take account of the different cam timing. I am not sure whether aftermarket adjustable wheels take that into account. So if effectively you have an ABY sensor position then that might be contributing to your problems. I know its not a direct comparsion but when I got my 3B it was so rich at idle it actually hurt your eyes to stand behind it, farted and popped on the over run, flames after every gear change. Sounds like fun but the mid teen fuel consumption wasn't! The car struggled to make the std boost. Upon checking the hall sender window position it was well out. After correcting that the car was transformed. It went from struggling to make boost to making stupid boost as it had a Superchip WG spring in it. Fuel consumpion was back into the 20's.
What I am trying to illustrate is that a misalignment of that hall sender window had quite profound effects. Perhaps something to investigate.

Completely agree - just been discussing arrangements to get this done along with a compression test and a suitable environment to have the car in if you could make it over Dmitri.

You don't really need me for that, and those things could really shed some light on the issues you are having.
At this point I believe there is not one, but multiple things wrong with your car, and if we could get even a few solved, that'd go a long way.

The car is booked in this weekend to have a compression test, stock ABY cams and pulley put back in, fuel pressure test, and a spare wastegate installed (thanks vasilis).

This is actually valid.. and it would make the car run pig rich.

Could you please log the Coolant sensor and the IAT sensor in VAG-COM at normal operating temperature?
Do they show correct values?

Is this the MFTS? The coolant temp on the dash reads correctly, so should be working correctly?

I will get some logs and data from VAG-COM and zt2 this week for you

I think the ECU reads temp from another sensor in the back of engine, drivers side, you would be looking at it from the drivers seat..... (I think)

The ecu takes coolant reading from the temp sensor at the back of the engine head by the downpipe, the MFTS is the one that supplies the temp reading to the dash so two different sources afaik

You can see what the ecu thinks temp is in vag-com

Yup, they said it.
Also check the IAT sensor reading with VAG-COM as well, while you're at it.
If that shows high it'll run rich all the time.

Dmitri - do you want groups 000, 001 and 002, or other specific ones from VAG-COM?

I see 003 has IAT and throttle angle.

From VAG-COM, you could do 000 and 003 at the same time.
Set the intervals to the minimum values in the settings screen (25 and 0 IIRC), to get better sample rate.

But you can use the rest of the groups to check if all the sensors are reporting sane values.
Check coolant sensor in group 001, IAT sensor in 003.

If you paste even a single reading of Group 000 here, I will already know your fuel trims and we can see what the car is doing.
