I have not changed anything mechanically between in running and not running, hence I suspect some random electric component failure?

I never tried to start it with the 3B rail, just mocked it up then fitted the ABY once I saw your pictures.

I've just had a weird thought, did the car actually run ok on the 3B fuel rail and FPR??

Sometimes you are no help at all for my sanity!

Exactly, you have to carry speed and really link all the corners well so they flow. Very enjoyable and satisfying!

Still missed the power on the straits though.

At least you had some fun on the track, it's really good discipline to lap with less power and think more about corner speed and momentum. Like trying to just lap in one gear or driving something less powerful. A mate of mine used to thrash all of us on trackdays on an Aprilia 250, we were all on 1000s, he'd almost keep up on short straights but just ride underneath you round the corners, momentum..

I think if the hall sensor is not working then the fuel pump won't run and the plugs would be dry.

A4 on track was a disaster, all going well, having a good time when it split the heater matrix hose, and the rad is leaking. Water temps on the dash were fine, no warning lights prior to it dumping its coolant. The inside of the hose looks shagged so possibly on its way out and track just killed it.

Cut the heater matrix hose and bypassed the heater matrix to drive the car home, just topping up water as needed.

A4 was quite good fun on track, no power but that made me a lot smoother, you have so much time to think compared to the S2.

My boss took me out in his Caterham which was amazing, so fast for a 1.6 K series rover engine, coming from a road car is unbelievable how late you can brake and how fast you can corner! Fantastic experience. I am too tall to drive it unfortunately, the pedals were on top of my shins, even in the passenger side I had to slouch right down to get my head under the roll cage, feet jammed in, people were pissing themselves watching me manouver my way in through the cage

So between the A4 and the S2 cars are not my favourite thing right now. Biggest thing stopping me from just stripping the S2 is what can I replace it with?

380bhp, 1400kg, AWD, drives well on the road, can be driven hard on track, "reliable" "practical" relatively cheap.

Not yet, injectors are wet and no spark.

I plan on doing a back to basics and work through everything, Alex has told me how to test the hall sensor, so thats a start.

I have +12V at the coil plug. Could you confirm what wire colour you made +12v on the coil loom?

As it was running after the pin swap I suspect something may have died? ECU VAG com needs sorted though.

If the hallk sensor was dying would that explain intermittent starting, then if it failed whilst running it would drive home in limp home hence ok at part throttle then if its dead completely no start.

I am fitting the BBS wheels on the A4 and taking it on track for the shits and giggles.

I am going to ditch the S2 for a week or so, do some other stuff and come back and work through troubleshooting in a logical manner. Right now I just want to break it and buy an E46 M3/skyline/supra/996 turbo/B5 S/RS4 etc as none of them will ever go wrong

Do I need an oscilloscope the check the hall sensor?

This really sucks man. When I spotted you posted the last message at nearly 2am I was thinking you had it sorted. I can't really think of any thing to try that you haven't tried. Nothing stupid like a fuel hose kinked or injectors in so squint that they are not injecting properly?
Just thinking of anything you have touched since it was OK.

I have checked the ECU plug, and all the pin swaps in the ECU plug, pins are still in the holder.

VAGCOM led goes green when its plugged in. I will check the K L lines another day.

Checked timing, spot on, tried tweaking it either way just in case but no go, back to on the line.

Just scunnered with it now, really wanted it working for tomorrow.

Anybody know of a nice S2 avant for sale?
