Hopefully it will work out with this other turbo.

Definitely not oil restrictor all the lines were cleared and checked before refitting to the new engine. In all honesty she had quite a bit of play in her before fitting and I think the new engine has just pushed her over the edge.

I've got owen developments on the case though with a tweaked replacement core. But first thing they said was the 3076 was way too small for a 2.5 if pushing the bigger boost pressure figures as it throws it straight of the side of the map.

Sorry to hear about the turbo JP. Do you run an inline restrictor or filter? Or just rely on the turbos own restrictor on the oil feed?

I think you should get an HTA GT3582 or perhaps even the 3586 with that bigger displacement!

i dont understand why a stroker makes a difference or not. If you go to 2bar and then drop it accordingly to be inside the island, then the turbo should not fail. Of course you will not make as much horsepower, but that is not the case.

we have seen the 3076 pushing 608hp (crank) on 1.8bar , rocco has that engine now, so i wouldnt necesseraly go to a bigger one.

My opinion, if you are going to spend some money on it, i would go to the 3076GTX which can cope with 600hp and from other forums and threads on tests on all GT vs GTX as well as GTX between themselves, and found that the best one is the 3076GTX which on same hotside gives more horsepower without sacrificing spool.

My biggest issue is that I'm stuck in the short term with an exhaust manifold which has a k26 flange/stud configuration.

So anything I buy for quick turnaround has got to fall within the means of the k26 hotside. Anything else has to be longer term as I will need a new exhaust manifold, new downpipe, new boost run, new intercooler.

Which being my daily hack is not a viable option to go EFR straightaway. If i had a t3 flange manifold I would buy the efr straightaway bodge the downpipe and boost run and run her at low boost to keep her on the road whilst collecting a new mani, boost run, intercooler etc....

As for the GT30 the more an engine flows the more the turbo has to spin to achieve the same boost pressure. This overspool is what kills turbos as you're basically of the map. As for making 600 at the Flywheel with one not on the dyno's I go to. As for the GTX turbos I'd rather buy a HTA same broader map but with quicker spool, everything a GTX wants to be but isn't. On paper they look good just don't behave the same way as the HTA's in real life.

i am not sure but i think they tested somewhere a GTX against an HTA, and the first made more HP while the seccond was faster spooling. With your stroker though, a GTX 0.82AR shouldnt be laggy. Whether the best option would be GTX3076 vs HTAGT35...thats another issue!

For the humanly 2.2 though i keep finding that for fast response, a 3076 with a .63+ported head would be ideal.

Did you ever got around dynoing the ported head setup with 0.82AR instead of the 0.63AR which had made 535hp?

If I had to choose between a bit more hp or faster spool the faster spool would win hands down each time as long as it remains a street car. If the hp gain was significant I'd be happy to sacrifice some spool.

As for testing the 0.82 housing on a ported head I never got round to it. Most people that got in the car though said it lost It's visciousness. Driving it I found myself much higher up the rev range too. Shortly afterwards I pulled the head for redevelopment for fitment of oversized valves whilst I started preparing for the Stroker build so never did get dyno figures with that configuration.

At the moment if I overlay my current plot with the old one I've gained 750rpm on the torque curve compared to the .63 housing. So I'm happy with that I'm sure if I loose the clocked 7A cam configuration for stock AAN intake I'll gain a bit more on the torque again looking at Epic's plot, but at the sacrifice of mid to top end response where it is needed for sprinting.
In the same token as the turbo was loud on the dyno it may already have been on its way out? Time will tell but it looks like I'll definitely have some sort of 30r setup as a temporary interim solution.

Well in about 10-12 days I'll have a ported k26 .63 hotside for sale to fit a 3076 and a .6 cold side 4" intake fitted with a diffuser

Could you make a temp adapter flange to get a t3 type flange on your current manifold so you could open the door to efr turbos etc. Only till you build up the funds for a more refined the manifold. Wouldn't need to be perfect. What exhaust mani are you useing.

Already looked at that as an option but not easily viable without either welding a flange onto the cast Wagner evo mani. Or making such a large adapter (elbow style) it puts it in the wrong place.

Instead for the interim as a bolt on solution I've got Owen Developments making me a custom GT30.
They're machining a stock 76 housing to take the HTA billet 82mm wheel. Then changing all the bearings to ceramics with metal races and a heavier duty heatshield to match upto the k26 hotside.

It means I can carry on driving the car and then one morning unbolt the turbo, bolt the new one up, fit the oversized MAF and some bigger injectors and chuck it straight on the dyno late afo. Keeps things simple. Let's me enjoy the car over the summer and then start looking at a bigger intercooler new hoses to the throttle body. Eventually changing the turbo in one hit. In the same token I may just like how it drives and leave it at that for a cpl of years. Only time will tell.

                              Questions questions

                              1) What are these EFR turbos?
                              2) How much are Own charging for the custom GT30? i've been on at them for a year for a billet install in my GT30r but think mine will go to HTA or Turbo Dynamics next year for an upgrade
                              3) Your K36 manifold maybe able to modified into the T3, I remember having vague conversations with Carsten over it before I bought the T3 evo manifold, they all start out the same however i can't remember if the 4 bolt spacing is different, pm Lupo911
