    Why a S2 steering rack?

Got a type 81 coupe steering rack if you decide that will be sufficient.

The S2 rack for ABY LHD has less turns from lock to lock

          Excellent work lads
Who did you use for the acid dip? What are he plans once the fabriaction work is done? E-coat or something else?

The acid dipping was done by prostrip Nottingham. Cost for a car shell is circa £1200.

Next step once all welding and fab work is done. It goes back to be re dipped and then has some kind of epoxy resin coating so will report my findings once that has been done.
This process I believe is a further £1300

Wow, you really had to have a great budget. £2500 only on paint remove. Wonder how much money will be spent before it's running? Other wise, sure it's nice to work with that now.

Looking great chaps. Do you do lots of spot welds when attaching both halfs together to cut down on warping or do you just go for long runs? Im really interested in the epoxy coating, id like to make rear quarters bolt on and galv dip a whole shell then use zinc plated panels for ultimate protection.

You cant under estimate how good it is to work with clean steel though! I bet having it stripped saves a lot of labour in the long run as you don't need to go cleaning everything before welding.

The guys at Prostrip do a light re-strip post welding to remove any rust and crud. Then they apply a thick coating of marine grade primer.

For the suspension components we'll be coating the bare metal with this:

                        http://www.rust.co.uk/content/6/8-ep...roofing-paint/

Apparently this is tougher than POR 15. We'll also coat the underside of the car with it before adding a layer of rubberised and then colour.

After having many Audis over the years and restoring B660XRO, UR Quattro,(have a google) being drawn into the sport quattro scene. Are the 2 door 80s still about, mainly in Germany?
Not sure of the route, but would love to get the right screen angle and 2 doors.
                          Any advice gratefully received, thanks

I'm just up the road from you - happy to chat. In short, there is a decent supply of 80 2 doors in Germany. Correct screen and the metalwork is generally in good condition too. Had a google but couldn't find your UR.

Try this link on the UR.
It was a bare shell rebuild that i bought for a couple of grand BEFORE Ashes to Ahes sent prices skyward.
It took me 5 years to resore from the ground up.
There is a bit on Classic Audi when it was in Audi Cheltenham showroom for a while.
Did the usual ABY conversion and Keith at Dialynx said it was one of the nicest restorations he'd seen - a good accolade.
Wife wanted a new kitchen, so sold it and regretted it ever since.
Had a nice Pelican Blue S2 coupe ....sold it - regretted it so now looking for another long term project.
Can you recommend any publications in Germany or would you just go on German ebay?
Was looking at the thread on here for 3 cars for 5K, but need to do it in sensible stages ! !
                                Thanks, Chris
