They look stunning and building it yourself just makes it better

I can't have any fun in it - I can't drive WOT as it has the old maps in it - the difference in the injector duty cycle is huge, so god knows what else is well out.
Have to be honest Doug, your car is looking the ********. Cant wait to meet up with you and have a ride. Will be interesting to compare the two cars to see how much faster yours is. Being so young and all, i dont have the same access to money as your older *******s!!!!

Been driving the car this weekend and there are a few oddities with it.
When I put my foot down (not WOT) and the boost gets to 10psi it starts to hesitate.
When restarting the car, when it is warm, it has burst into life but cut out almost immediately. Then it takes a good few turns before it fires up again.
Although it is quite cold here, there seems to be a lot of smoke from the exhaust at idle.
I just want to know if this all could be down to overfueling or is are the other things I should be looking at?

Doug, check carefully the intake tract for any leaks, so it'll save us headaches while tuning it... otherwise, the boost/hesitation issue sounds like not running enough timing advance to me but we'll see that when I'm inside it with the emulator plugged in, it might also be pinging, though I doubt it's happening at 10 psi... it could also be that the combustion chambers are getting drowned in fuel, especially with those beasts spitting 35% more than RS2 injectors in...
The smoke is certainly due to a rich mixture, can you smell fuel in the exhaust fumes (without getting intoxicated)?
The hot start issue sounds the same for me, too much fuel being injected on start up, you could actually check this with VAG-Com while cranking with a cold engine, then doing it over with a hot engine, though the problem is that the communication gets shut while cranking AFAIK, but it's worth a shot....
Cheers,
Mihnea

I am certain there are no leaks, although i will do some more leak tests to be sure.
Does the injector duty cyle return to a fixed figure after the ignition is off? Or does it remember what it "adapted" to after the previous run with adjustment through the lambda?
Doug, AFAIK and IME, the lambda regulation isn't active during start-up but it's really weird that it does start after a few tries.... must be a too rich mixture, I can't think of anything else... I'll get you sorted m8, don't worry, that new real-time (or online as the germans call it) emulator that I have really kicks serious ***!!!!

I'd say 1.9 from 4000 through 5500, then 1.8 at 6k and 1.5 at 7k should be conservative enough for his rods... but we'll see how efficient the turbo is, if we figure it's good at those boost levels, why not try to push it at 1.7 at 7k?

Sounds good, ill have some of that!! Just keep winding the pressure up until it goes bang!!! Then you know you have found that limit. LOL
But no, really, i will have some of that Mihnea 1.9 bar sounds good to me. Need to chat to you about the tuning on mine, just so i can describe what is happening at what speeds. Has some massive flat spots, and think it is overfuelling, its doing about 12 mpg. It is also hard to drive at low speed. Think i had that boost leak when it was last mapped!
Doug, you will have that to look forward to. Those injectors will make your car drink fuel faster than i can drink pints!!
