I got the alternator back overhauled with new slip rings and regulator with brushes.
I had a go at tig welding the alloy bushes I had made up into the cast alloy bracket for the alternator. Its my first time alloy welding and it seems my kit can't do the current I need for heavy alloy parts. I got a nice enough weld at the outside of the bracket but in near the base coudnt get enough heat into it to make a nice weld puddle.
I'm using a 350 amp murex boc arc welder as an ac power source feeding a boc hf 450 amp box. The power ratings are on 3 phase so my issue is that at single phase the 350 amp murex is only doing 125 ish amps. By the time it's out of the hf box I'm little over 100 amps I suppose.
I later tried some 2mm plate and it was fine. Man alloy conducts heat and needs amps! That same murex can glow a 4mm arc rod no problems.

Tried looking at down pipes. 3 inch is easy.
3 inch with a 2 inch wastgate tube is going to be tight.
4 inch is daft. Not going to ever fit.
