A good point. I will get the proper nuts

    • Thank you Shuriken,

Agreed. I was hoping someone else would pick up on that. Both of the commonly available SS nuts would be of less than OEM capacity. That the nuts are both taller and softer makes their use here inappropriate. The fastener's ability to hold torque and stay locked long term as well as the originals should trump other considerations.

      • I made some tie rod splash guards as the old ones were torn. Got the idea from another thread on this great forum.

        Cut from tractor inner tube.

        • Just a small update.

Changed my gearbox oil while it was nice and warm. The old stuff has seen better days!

While I was there, I went to change the slave cylinder. Unfortunately, autodoc has sent the wrong one!

I fitted my front subframe. It went on nicely with the bushes from AK. However, I’m now taking it off again as I’m told the engine goes in first!
Luckily I hadn’t torqued it up.

So I understand but I have been told that it is easier to put the engine and gearbox in together and then bring the subframe up underneath after. I haven't done one before so I'm open to all advice!
However, I do have a problem in that I have just discovered that I have no gearchange linkage and this needs to be fitted first

Anyone have a spare set for sale that fits an Avant?

              • It depends on the facilities you have and if you have a helper. Gearbox sits on the subframe so the subframe needs to go in after the gearbox

                • Another small update.
I bought a new slave cylinder from AutoDoc. It was a Febi and the part no was as is listed on 7Zap. However, I was too big.
After lots of emails, autodoc finally agreed a refund.
I got a Sachs one from Pete at Quattro Corner. It’s a bit more expensive but a perfect fit and OE spec. It also came the next day!
I shall be spending more with Pete from now on!

                  Febi cylinder won’t fit!

                  Sachs next to original (BOGE)

                  All fitted

Pipe flushed with clean brake fluid and replaced

Decent service though, and as most parts are NLA with TPS what can we do? I paid £105 for a slave cylinder from TPS a few years ago after trying to fit one from Eurotrashparts which had no chance of ever fitting, similar to the Autodoc stroy

Out of interest, can you still obtain the standard Sachs clutch kit in Germany?

i cant say if its awailable or not but i think audi dealership will have one for crazy money. but why wont you get an upgrade clutch ? feels stockish and will endure more punishment and its not hard to find one. i got one also for a good price.
