    Mot passed with flying colours.

And then straight for wheel alignment.

    I wasn't far off.

Great work David, I need to change my coolant temp sensor so this was very helpful!

Nice work on the grill, if the clips are rusty it's very difficult to make them fit nicely. yours looks spot on!

I am guess you manged to find replacements clips or the grill been storage for a very long time, regardless the result is excellent.

    Yes, you are probably right.
Anyway, spent the whole day in the garage and made good progress.
The new sender wasn't that easy in the end. I had to modify a 24mn spanner.

I happened to have a new spare.

Which was 22mm and fortunately a previous modified spanner made re fitting very easy.

So warmed her up and burped the coolant (again) and we are leak free.
Almost ready for mot now. Spun her up and down the drive and she is going in a straight line now and brakes working well.

Getting all that history is a seriously good result!

I'm lucky enough to have the fully stamped original Audi service book. With the Oil changed by Audi every 5K up to 96K when I got it and gave it a major service. I could even stamp the service book with our workshop Logo which is an independent VAG specialist. I'll be adding a fresh TDi oversize filter and Fuchs Titan 10W50 before it's on the road again.

Oil changes every 5K seriously prolong engine health, even if using fully synthetic race oil as I do. Especially on a high performance turbocharged car.where the oil gets a good baking.

Though I use Audi's Quantum 10W40 in any naturally aspirated cars as it's cheap and a really good product, I buy when it on special offer from TPS and get a box of 5X 5L containers for about £50 + VAT.

That little oil pressure sender is highly prone to leaking and should almost be replaced say every 50K as a service item. When they fully fail they do it in style spraying your oil straight out at whatever pressure the engine is at. Making a tremendous mess very quickly.

The steam/white vapor is probably condensation from the PCV system as you've been doing relativity short starts, also damp could be trapped in the exhaust system., All being well this should clear pretty quickly.

    Some progress.
Whilst I had the coolant drained yesterday I replaced the new intermotor coolant sensor for a Bosch one.

Then I fired her up and she ran much better.
Had to burp the coolant again.

But I hadn't fixed the oil leak. I collected some drips and this is engine oil. After some hunting with a borescope I eliminated the front main oil seal and the sump gasket. However I tracked the oil back up the sump rim to this.

It's the lower oil pressure sender. I removed the fan to get access.

Far easier than pulling the radiator

Thanks guys. Yes, it was a big relief.
As you say Ian, still need to sort out poor cold running and why I'm getting steam on first start. Next component to swap will be the coil packs. Fortunately I have a good spare set.

So it all went back together.
I'm also chasing an oil leak. This hose is a possibility and I purchased a replacement from Tango123 here on the forum.

    And new crush washers.

Swapped the after run pump. This is the Bosch replacement. It's slightly shorter. You can either remove the mount and drill two new holes for the rubber mount to bring it closer together or just turn the rubber mounts around. This also brings them closer together.

It made a big mess under the car and most of my nice new antifreeze was wasted.

    All back together.

Just got to find out why the white steam/smoke? Or has that cleared up? Either way, good to know you’ve sorted your leaky valve. (Schrader).
