I did a temporary fix on the bottom grill.

The new temp sender arrived and was duly fitted.

    On to the bumper
I warmed the headlamp washer hose in some hot water so it was easier to fit.

It's a bit of a juggle on your own.

    New stainless bolts and washers.

The rubber o rings on all the light fittings were perished and I replaced them.

These fog lights appear to have drl fitted but there is no wire for them in the car. They look oe original.

New stainless screws and washers everywhere.

    Looking not too bad.

I had a good play with the bonnet pin. Lots of adjustments were made and I think it's good.

The offside bumper grill is supposed to be smaller, it’s removable for the front, to access the tow eye.
Its held in place with a round clip, but someone has cut off the mounting point for it on your bumper.

The height of the stop buffers on the slam panel may also need some adjustment.

Take the pin out and make sure it passes easily through the hole in the slam, if it does then it has to be down to its position in the bonnet, there's a lot of side to side and forward back adjustment available in the bonnet, or there should be, the pin is bolted into an oversized hole with large washers. If there's not enough movement maybe the slam panel is sitting too far back or forward or is out of shape. I have spare slam panel pieces if you need ;-)

I dont think its the cable. I've been pressing the lever to release the pin by hand and it pops up nicely but something is still catching. I will try swapping the pins over. Good idea

Have you checked the release cable is properly held in place by the little clips on the underside of the slam panel? What if you swap the bonnet pins around does the fault change side too? Are the guide sleeves okay? Cable stretched maybe?

    My grommets arrived.

I wasted no time getting them fitted.

Whilst there I couldn't resist giving the rusty bits on the wings a quick clean and some rust treatment.

Also gave the bumper a wash.

I gave the grill clips a clean and treated the rust. I dare not try and remove these as I'm sure the plastic clips will break.

The grill on the off side is missing. A replacement came with the car but it's too small. A new replacement is available at Tradition for a whopping 80 euros. I have ordered some aluminium grill material and will make a new one. The plastic clips here are all broken so I will have to get creative and make something up.

I cleaned up the headlamps and fitted them without any drama.

All the screws are rusty so I've ordered some new in stainless steel.

Now, quick question. My left bonnet pin keeps sticking. I've tried adjusting the pin length and orientation as well as the slam panel. Any other suggestions? I can't see any damage on the pin or in the pin hole on the slam panel. The cable pull is working fine and the bonnet pops up but the one pin still sticks.

My mechanic friend came over and we did the tracking using the string method. It's far easier with two people.

I will get it done on the hunter at my local place after the mot.
I put some water in the screen wash bottle and it duly leaked out. I have some new grommets on order.

Not worth the risk over here in something so valuable, not to mention the six penalty points and £1K fine. Sadly unless the car is taxed and MOT'd, the comprehensive insurance would not be valid in the event of an incident with another motorist. The only way around that law is using trade plates or driving to prebooked MOT by the most direct route.

Congratulations Dave, I'm delighted to see you have the car running and it was a simple fix in the end.

Fingers crossed I maybe putting mine back on the road latter this year if I can get my elbow fixed and off the heavy pain killers before they start salting the roads come Autumn time, which they're still doing surprisingly often around here currently.

Going to WhatsApp you regarding something I'd really like from the 80 at your local breakers which I don't mind coming down with my Farther to collect.
