Cheers Ian. I normally replace the pump anyway when doing a full re build. The original looked quite new and tested good so I didn't on this occasion. New Bosch pump ordered this morning.Leave a comment:

They can also go bang and spray hot coolant in your face while you're standing over them looking for the leak..
The after run pumps become brittle with age, it's basically a washing machine water pump. The inlet outlet pipes collapse with over tightening. That's my experience, if it's confirmed that is the problem, just replace it.

It wasn't the switch.

It was the bulb holder. Fortunately I had a good spare.

So I have a coolant leak. This appears to be coming from the after run pump.
I've nipped up the hoses and we will see what happens. I also appear to have another oil leak. Oh the joys.

I'm also generally a fan of black wheel's on white or silver cars and white wheels on black cars, obviously depending on the car and the wheels. I had a metallic black Scirroco with with Compomotive's which looked really cool to my eyes back in the 1990's, also had a set of metallic black BBS RM split rims on my metallic Grey Corrado G60, that didn't work as well but I was still happy enough with the outcome.
However, RS2 wheels are a really nice extra deep super metallic silver colour which is obviously a Porsche finish that reallly sets the cars appart.Leave a comment:

I kinda like the black wheels!
Good work as usual Dave. Thanks for keeping us updated!!

I took the morning off and went to a Classic Car meet in the Ur. Have you seen that thread?
In the afternoon I took a fresh look at the poor cold running issue. I had done some research on this fantastic forum and found a thread on the carbon canister. So I disconnected the little blue plug.

And went for a cold start. Fixed. Ran perfectly. Now I'm wondering if I connected the pipes to the canister the right way around. Embarrassing face emoji. I will try swapping them over.
Anyway, next job on the list is to test all the lights. A couple of blown bulbs replaced but the fog light refuses to illuminate. Fuse 1 is good.

I'm found some corrosion on the bulb holder but that didn't fix it.
So maybe the switch? Fortunately I have a couple of spares (as you do). I will try another tomorrow.
Engine bay is now pretty much there. Bonnet pins are behaving impeccably but I still have the front grill off just in case.
Grin emoji.

Don't worry. They will be silver soon.
Now, the paint hasn't seen love in a long time.
Got the machine polisher out.

The bonnet and roof were the worst.
Made a big difference.

Then she got some good wax.

Looking much better.

I still have my cold start issue. I'm slowly working through things that might cause this. Lambda sensor swapped out and made no difference. I pulled the plugs and they are all sooty and wet. She is running too rich on cold start. Once warm she runs fine.

Coils next on the list then the maf. It's fortunate I have all these bits as spares (as you do).

The first v reverse gearbox selection is common whether standard or even rebuilt boxes. Our 6sp did it OE and still does it post professional rebuild in 2004. If you stop, select 2nd before first to align the dogs and it’s fine.
Those wheels are hideous, OE colour please…

Busy day today.
Car came out of hibernation and had a good scrub. First in years.

The noo noo came out and the seats got fed again.

All the interior plastics were cleaned, glass cleaned inside and out.

Now I still have a few issues to sort. Cold start is still very poor and engine all over the place.
I have a good spare idle valve so swapped it over.

The old one was cleaned to see what came out. Not much.
Next issue is gear change. It's very easy to select reverse instead of 1st gear. I noticed the ring that fits over the main gear bush wasn't tight, just floating around. I think I need a new main bush and ring but can't seem to find any. Any suggestions?
Then the brakes are a little soft. I will need to bleed them again.
Plus the alignment seems way out. Everything has settled since we did it the other day so I will have to have another go.
Paint needs a really good machine polish.
Plenty to do. Puff puff!
