Over the weekend I had the chance to do a little more work........

Saturday I did some detail work in the engine bay with the wiring. Looking at pictures that I have taken over the last 6 years I carefully placed clips and ties around the engine bay. It's interesting how you can initially look at a wire and not have a clue how it is supposed to run. So you leave it be for a while, and then out of nowhere you realize exactly how it sits. I also added the fan harness, which required a rewrap of all that lovely sticky black cloth tape.

Anyway, below is a picture of the bay as it sits now.

I got bored with wiring so I figured I would try my hand at getting the insulation back in place. I had carefully removed the insulation previous to sending the car to the painter, but I really didn't make a guide to where things went so I went back to the pictures. I was able to find three pictures that were enough to get me most of the way down the road. A couple of pieces are still homeless.

Mounted the ABS controller and the battery tray, which was one of a few small discarded parts still in an avant shell I found in a very nice lady's back yard in Chichester.

Sunday morning my mate Eric drove down from Chattanooga to help me place the inner door/window frames in the door shells. We dug out the frames from my dusty old shed and took the garden hose to them. Nothing too fancy here, just a lot of water while rubbing them down with my hands. With the cobwebs, dust, and spider guano washed off we dropped them into place. Not really too worried about the seals matching up perfectly yet because once the car is completed the alignment task will be taken care of by the nice fellows at the paint shop. It's starting to look like a car again.

I swung by the paint shop on the way home from work today hoping for some more blue parts to take home. Not yet. Hopefully they'll have something form me by the end of the week.

      Wow man, it's looking fine!

And it looks like someone has been paying attention to your post, looked what I found here:

12 Wonderful Wagons We Want - #5 is the RS2 Avant, does it look familiar?

      "12 Wonderful Wagons We Want

      Audi RS2 Avant
      1994-94

This baby was as quick as it was rare. Audi took an 80 wagon, added a five-cylinder turbocharged engine from the S4 and hardware from the Porsche parts bin to create one hell of an avant, as the Germans call wagons. With more than 300 horsepower under the hood, a zero-to-60 time of 4.8 seconds and super exclusivity -- fewer than 3,000 were built -- this is one of the coolest wagons ever.

lol. You guys are junkies! I have a few things to share, but I have been too frigin' busy to stop and post a lengthy update. I picked a small box of painted parts (mirrors, trim, etc) last week and I got my bumpers on Saturday I'll try to give a nice update with pics tonight. Hang in there!

You guys really are the best. OK, I'll try to be more regular with my updates. All kidding aside, if anyone is in the area please don't hesitate to contact me. I'd love to see your shining faces up here in the north Georgia mountains enjoying a shandy whilst looking over the car(s). If the weather is cool enough(no A/C in the room above the garage) I can even put you up for the evening.

I've been slowly chipping away at the stone.

From a couple weeks back.........after I placed the window frames in place I realized that I had mistakenly used the rear frames from a sedan. Look back at the previous pics and you'll see the sedan frame and how they slope towards the rear. Definitely wouldn't work in this app. They were the cleanest of all the frames I had in the workshop so I grabbed them first. Anyone of you would make the same mistake. Ok, ok, the fact that my mate and I had had a few beers might have had something to do with it also. I went back to my pile of doors and dug out the proper pair of rear avant frames/glass and hit them with the garden hose to rinse off the dust and spider scheiße. I unbolted the sedan frames and popped in the avant pieces....easy stuff. After the frames I hung the right side door cards just to see how they would look.

Last week I received a phone call from the painter stating that he had a small box of parts for me to pick up. I had been hounding them for my outer door handles for a few weeks now and they had finally succumb. I drove over on Wednesday this week and pick up a small box containing my door handles, outer mirrors, RS2 under headlight trim, and the fuel filler flap. I was again happy that I had something to play with. I ran home that evening and mounted up one of the mirrors, stood back and thought "wow, those are such sweet mirrors".

Fast forward to Saturday morning. I had a long "honey do" list set for me on Saturday morning so I set my alarm clock and awoke at 6:30. The painter was waiting on me when I arrived with my bumpers already outside ready for me to pick up. A few minutes later I was on my way home with them, but I would have to wait to play with my new blue parts. Sunday after church I was given the OK by the control tower to have the rest of the afternoon to hang out in the garage. Both bumpers went on as well as the side skirts. I had wanted to roll the car outside to take better pictures, but didn't get the chance.

Again, I'll get some better pics and post them this week. Hopefully this will hold folks for a few days.
