HELP!

I cannot believe my luck and am on the verge of giving up.
just as it seemed we had sorted gearbox issues out, there is no reverse gear. All linkage taken out and tried manually but to no avail.
Can anyone shed some light?

Tried manually = engaging by hand directly on gearbox? Can you find all the other gears?

Yes. Linkage out and tried manually.
1-6 all good. Just can't hit reverse

Did you turned the engine a little?
Clutch is working ok?
As..the reverse gear has to go between 2 other gears...iff those dont mach and the engine and gearbox is not turning..then is possible that the reverse not engaging.

Hi Eugen,
Linkage has been taken out the equation and the selector is being operated manually.
reverse position can be achieved but gear simply not engaging with or without engine running.

Shouldn't be as a brand new gearbox. But way things are going, anything is possible

ive had selectors fail when gearboxes have been rough handled or dropped

or is its been apart to be cleaned or anything, see if there is any nut shaped objects on the outside of the gearbox, sometimes if theres a few they can be replaced in the wrong place as these can depress springs to allow/disallow engagement

BMW/Merc have this, had some of my staff do things like this before

There are detents around the shifter area.

I will dismantle my gearbox...and i will make some pictures with the linkage and detent system. I think is just a matter of one off those detents are not corect disengaging.
The reverse has separate rod and fork...

Into the picture....number 9 has to slide easy over the shaft nr.5A. ) is pushing or pulling the 10 lever wich is directly engaged with the reverse gear.
Maibe 9 is not sliding easy over the shaft and this is the reason...unfortunatly...this means gearbox dismantle.

OK FOLKS - I HAVE FORWARD GEARS AND REVERSE NOW

It was down to the detent(s)

Well folks, here are some pics of the gear selector/linkage that caused so many problems. Drastic action was taken to see what was going on
