I filled the tank before 358 mile trip, and filled it again today, and consumption worked out at 8.7 l/100l which is 32mpg (doing about 80/85 mph most of the way+wasn't only motorway), which is good I guess? The trip computer said 28mpg

ALSO, I think the floaty thing in the tank isn't working right. Before filling up, tank was very very empty (I thought I won't make it to the station) and only 66 litres went in.

ALSO, is there a way to calibrate trip computer?

By the way Hunker7: Most of what you need to know about your AAN is found here (click on the pertinent label, in this case PCV system):

Good point. On a meet a couple years back there was an S2 that started smoking because of a full catchcan. Blocked PCV would result in the same problems I think?

Be sure it is valve guides/seals....

I know from experience that seals are just a patch job, and actually it is the guides that need doing.

    Also...

At that consumption I would be looking elsewhere, 100 miles for a litre of oil? I would be looking at a turbo personally.

Hoses off and have a look.

My guides needed doing years back, just replaced seals, still smokes now, but does about 4000 miles/litre, and that's with a crank seal that's making the underside of the engine look like the Exxon Valdez has made a showing. (new year job).

That looks interesting. Definitely worth a consideration, as rest of the work involved is unnecessary. Will ask Tonks nicely, maybe he can let me see the magin tool

How are the kits called, could have a look. As that could work out cheaper, than full gasket set + skimming.

You can do it in situ, there are a few kits, compressed air into the spark plug hole to hold the valves (or string if you want to be ghetto) and a lever valve spring compressor that bolts to the head.

You can get a head gasket kit for ECP, GSF, local motor factors, quattro corner etc. Just make sure its a MLS one. Victor Reinz seem to be rated on the forum.

You will need new head bolts (stretch)
I am quite sure it valve stem seals. On long drives levels don't change, around town, 100 miles and it's below minimum. Also, on cold start, blue smoke coming out.

Is this one of those engines? Dad told me that can be done by holding the valves through spark plug holes, or something like that?
