Oil recommendations and questions here - The Definitive S2 Oil thread
A 60 is too thick and can lead to problems, so with a standard car, I wouldn't advise a 10w-60 or 20w-60. Yes, a 60 will cover up the sound, but it won't help to protect as well as a 40 or 50. What oil are you currently using?
Cheers

Just bought the car and want to do service, and can't really decide what to pour in, dad uses 5w30 Castrol Magnetic on his 1.8T AUM engine, so open for suggestions.
Also, what about break fluid, got HP2 at the front.
Thanks

I probably would not go for a 5w-30 in yours, I would look to use a 5w-40 or 10w-40 synthetic for al year round use, if you plan to modify or use on track then look to use a 10w-50.

I've had no dealings with Motorex, so can't really comment, although I would think the 10w-60 is too thick unless it's heavily modified and used on track.

Had a good look at this thread and it has confirmed to me what i have always been using which is a 10w-40 fully sythetic oil is right for my audis. But after reading and taking note i will now go 5w-40 for added cold protection in my 1997 S6 and the 80 V6 cars i run so thanks for that.
I have 2 questions. 1st one.....What do you think of Synionic oil? In this months Audi Driver the Project audi 100 received engine and gearbox oil changes using Synionic oil. The claim in the article was quote "In a normal high quality synthetic oil,the film strength usually amounts to around 5,000 psi of pressure. With Synionic,it's around 220,000 psi. This is due to the way the molecules are bonded together. In a normal synthetic, they are Long Chain Single Bonded and in Synionic, they rae more complex Consecutively Bonded fromation." After reading that,on face value it sounds very impressive the reason why i have asked for you what you think.
2nd question... Is Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 an ester based oil?
Thanks.Looking forward to your reply cheers Mark.

I can't comment on Synionic oils, we don't deal with them. Film strength helps with cold start protection, but really, there shouldn't be metal to metal contact anyway. Once the oil is warm and flowing properly, hydrodynamic protection takes over.
Shell Helix oils are not ester based, here are the ester oils that we have.

I don't deal with Agip, so can't suggest one of their oils, but I would use a 5w-40.
