I've asked him 3 times now to sort it but he never responds. That avenue is a dead end too I'm afraid.

Thats a bit harsh. He has contributed by telling us that the load is too low and suggesting several causes. However the OP has ruled these out so we are back to having to try and fathom out what else it could be, which is frustrating for us all. After all we are all enthausiasts and despite our quibbles the end goal is for the Forum member to get to enjoy their vehicle. Especially true in this case due to the length of time and effort put in by the OP, not to mention the cost!

    Understood!
Substitution often works when you know for certain that the substitute is functioning correctly. The maf is the primary engine sensor its just unfortunate that the parts stash hasn't come up trumps on this occasion.
Lets hope it is just something as simple as that now.

So what would you try to get the load reading correct? Baring in mind that I checked the intake and exhaust yesterday and both were clear and checked the valve timing again today?

SO why would you change the oil cap needlessly then?

(I'm pretty sure that the new MAF is needless too but....)

The oil filler cap is NOT THE ISSUE. It is how the cam cover is being pressurized during boosting (or a boost leak test) that is the issue.

There does appear to be another member suffering from air escaping from the oil cap during leak testing although his symptoms are not identical. So have you replaced this in your ownership. If not, thats cheaper than a Maf to start with.
On the mafs. Of course we don't know for certain whether unmetered air is corrupting the afr if you see what I mean. In % terms its a massive difference in the load.

Yeh I quite agree! But I also can't overlook the fact that I have two MAF sensors that check out exactly as 'right' as each other, give identical load readings at idle (not checked one at wot) but one is over 1% difference AFR, going from 15.2:1 to 13.8:1.

    Hi,

yes I guess I am. Seems at the minute as simple as; Get the load reading correct and it'll cure it.

And also, yes they are my thoughts exactly, the car is 20 years old and new sensors to do with the cars running HAVE ATO BE A GOOD THING!
