S6 timing

I've asked him 3 times now to sort it but he never responds. That avenue is a dead end too I'm afraid. -
Thats a bit harsh. He has contributed by telling us that the load is too low and suggesting several causes. However the OP has ruled these out so we are back to having to try and fathom out what else it could be, which is frustrating for us all. After all we are all enthausiasts and despite our quibbles the end goal is for the Forum member to get to enjoy their vehicle. Especially true in this case due to the length of time and effort put in by the OP, not to mention the cost!Leave a comment:

YOU need to PAY Dmitri (prj) to get involved. You're *not* going to get your load answer from us (amateur) sleuths. Contact Dmitri. Offer MONEY. Get him on the case. He's not going to help you for free, that is obvious.Leave a comment:

Understood!
Substitution often works when you know for certain that the substitute is functioning correctly. The maf is the primary engine sensor its just unfortunate that the parts stash hasn't come up trumps on this occasion.
Lets hope it is just something as simple as that now.Leave a comment:

So what would you try to get the load reading correct? Baring in mind that I checked the intake and exhaust yesterday and both were clear and checked the valve timing again today?Leave a comment:

SO why would you change the oil cap needlessly then?
(I'm pretty sure that the new MAF is needless too but....)Leave a comment:

Nobody seems to be listening. Boost during the test came out of the cap because I CARRIED OUT THE TEST INCORRECTLY, I tried going for 1.5 bar straight into the MAF hose this filling the oil system with that pressure.Leave a comment:

The oil filler cap is NOT THE ISSUE. It is how the cam cover is being pressurized during boosting (or a boost leak test) that is the issue.Leave a comment:

MAF is orederd anyway now. If it were unmetered air I can't see how dealing the MAF would alter the AFR as much as it does. I'll change the cap anyway though.Leave a comment:

There does appear to be another member suffering from air escaping from the oil cap during leak testing although his symptoms are not identical. So have you replaced this in your ownership. If not, thats cheaper than a Maf to start with.
On the mafs. Of course we don't know for certain whether unmetered air is corrupting the afr if you see what I mean. In % terms its a massive difference in the load.Leave a comment:

Yeh I quite agree! But I also can't overlook the fact that I have two MAF sensors that check out exactly as 'right' as each other, give identical load readings at idle (not checked one at wot) but one is over 1% difference AFR, going from 15.2:1 to 13.8:1.Leave a comment:

I think the thing that bothers me most is that Dmitri hasn't condemmed the maf considering he has seen more motronic logs than anyone alive.Leave a comment:

Hi,Apart from being peeved with the car, you must be getting close at this stage.
The one saving grace to remember is that all of the things you've checked / replaced will stand to you once you nail the fault. The car once the current mystifying fault is found will be good for years.
You have my virtual support in your quest, ( for what it's worth ).

yes I guess I am. Seems at the minute as simple as; Get the load reading correct and it'll cure it.
And also, yes they are my thoughts exactly, the car is 20 years old and new sensors to do with the cars running HAVE ATO BE A GOOD THING!Leave a comment:

Ahh yes, so he did, hahaha
It's just the time to get there at the minute, I have so little free time at the minute!Leave a comment:
