  • Fantastic work Dave. We really appreciate the photos and we know the time it takes to take them and post them.

    • Who supplied the SKF adjusters? I ask as I seem to recall these were'nt available directly from the online shop.

      • I got them from Autodoc.
I’m not keen on them but sometimes they have hard to find parts. They have 17mm centres which is much better than the puny originals.

        • Thanks, I share your your reservations about using Autodoc, but if they have something you need then it's bite the bullet time I guess.

          • Steering rods came out nicely.

I made up heat shields for the area around the turbo and downpipe. The originals fell apart.

The driveshaft splash guards got repaired.

And fitted along with steering rod splash guards.

My rear bumper brackets fell apart when I removed the bumper. I managed to get a new pair.

            Installed using stainless fittings.

I’m going to build up the front struts tomorrow.

              • unless I've missed it, where did you source the adjusters for the steering arms? I will be replacing the ones on my car in the near future so would prefer to get new like those.

Cheers mate. If I can get the bits you can't see right, everything else should be good.

                    Autodoc.
This time around have got quite a few parts from them which were hard to find or very expensive in the UK. Lemforder steering arm ball joints, drop links and Koni shocks also from them.
Their after sales service is very poor but if you double check what you are buying to make sure it fits and decline any replacements they may offer, recently everything has been good.

                    • Struts all together and fitted on the car.

I’ve used Lago Blue’s strut mount savers again. They are still going strong on the Avant after a few years and it seems a no brainier not to use them when doing this job. Easy to fit, reasonable price and detailed instructions (unlike Koni). What’s not to like?

                      • Back brakes all done. New Brembo discs and pads. Calipers and carriers overhauled, new bolts.

I had to replace one abs sensor that didn’t survive earth re entry. I picked up one on eBay for a good price but had to swap the plug over as it was different. I tied string to the old one before pulling it through to aid fitting the new one.

I replaced all the cages and used ceramic grease (non conducive) to reduce corrosion and aid future removal.

I made a start fitting the exhaust. These are the cats that were on my Avant as one cat was missing and one had nothing inside. I fitted RS2 cats on the Avant.

                            • Got you that makes sense. Unfortunately for the standard callipers the Brembo discs are NLA. Went with Zimmermann in the end which I think are a good brand.

                              • I have Zimmermann on my S2, and had them also on various other Audis. Can recommend them
