    • Front end has started to come back together. I've replaced all the cable holders with stainless screws and plastic p clips.

      • I made a start building up the driveshafts and struts. New Lobro boot kits. Struts have new gaiters, top mounts and bearings. New SNR wheel bearings fitted.
        A bit of tape helps to get the boots on.






        And driveshafts fitted.
        The Lobro cv kits include new inner flange bolts. Nice.
        The new shocks are KYB. Made in Japan and build quality looks top notch.

          • Things are coming back together slowly.


            The new control arms are Lemforder. Don't forget to order new guide sleeves if you are doing this job. One side had a replacement arm in the past and there was no sleeve. Apparently, the bushes wear really quickly without the sleeve.


            I think the old gaiters were past their sell by date.

              • The offside wing was rusted out at the bottom and around the arch. Strange that the nearside has hardly any rust at all and looks original.
                Anyway, It was taken to Ashley Grant in Banbury for repair. He did the welding for me on my Ur and is exceptionally talented. As expected, it's come out really well.









                Meanwhile, I've started stripping the back end and everything is seized and very crusty . Cry.

                    • The rear end is now almost completely stripped. Just the tank to drop next. I have found a nasty patch of corrosion on the tank and I can smell petrol. Sad face.








                      Both sides of the diff have been leaking oil for a long time. Everything is plastered.
                      No holes in the subframe that I can see so far. Quite a lot of rust on the chassis. It will all need to be cleaned and treated.
                      Next job will be to remove all the bushes and get all the parts to the sandblasting and powder coat place.

                            • My trusty Dewalt didn't survive the bush removal process.


                              But FFX came to the rescue in less than 24 hours.

                              The rear shocks are, well Um shocking!


                              There was a couple of gallons of stale petrol in the tank.


                              Getting the tank out was fun. Who designed the filler neck set up?




                              Now I have a small dilemma. The basket was removed no problem but the basket holder appears to be bonded to the bottom of the tank and is way too big to fit through the hole. If I use tank sealer in here, will I still get the basket back in?

                              • Hmm, that's a conundrum... I'd have thought there's enough flex in the basket and holder to allow it be refitted but I wouldn't want to bet on it and once you've done it there's no going back.

                                Where's the tank leaking from, the seam?
