I was thinking the same but came up with another plan. Holding the protruding bolt I was able to cut it just below the nut on both sides. Then it fitted sideways through the slot.



Then I could finish drilling it out.


I probably won't use it. I have another in the spares box somewhere.

The rear bumper came off. I'm amazed how little rust there is.






There is a little patch in the boot well on both sides.



Anyone want some spark plugs before they go in the bin?


The gearbox oil arrived.


I cleaned the engine block down and it's ready to paint now but it was too cold in the garage today.

Hi Dave, congratulations on the new purchase. As usual excellent work so far and looking forward to some good reading over the next few months. Have to say from the photo's looks really good underneath, It also look like a bodge free car which is rare for a used car these days.

It's a shame about the paint work. Will it need a full respray like your last Ur or can only certain area's be resprayed. Sure you are going to keep this one? Or are you already looking for the next project.

This afternoons jobs.
Fired up the space heater so I could paint.


Did the engine and sump.


In between coats, I decided to try and fix this big grommet. They are nla and a second hand one is £45!


The outer ring is ok. I cut the perished part out.


Cut some tractor inner tube up.

And glued two sections in. One inside and one outside.


A little tiger bond around the joint and we are good. When it's dry, I will cut the holes for the two fuel pipes and vac hoses.

The sump has been sitting in front of the log stove for 24 hours to cure the paint. Now it's ready to fit.
I got some m6 schnorr lock washers for the smaller nuts on the pick up. The manual shows them but there was nothing there.


Then the nice clean pick up with new gasket goes on. 10nm for the bolts and locking tabs on the larger bolts.



New gasket. Now I normally put a little sealant here but both manual and Phil's pages says not to so I've gone with that.


I've put some copper grease on the ends of the bolts. They stick out in fresh air so hopefully it will slow the rust down.


In they all go. All 22 and again 10nm.


Heads painted and support brace fitted.

And this afternoon collected my stuff from powder coating. As usual, they have done a cracking job and everything is like new. Happy days.

Thanks. It was the big one under the petrol tank that the fuel pipes pass through.

Not done much in the car since last week but after watching a couple of YouTube clips decided to have a go at making a parts tumbler. The cheapest I could find was £150 so after all the spending on parts for the Ur it seemed a good plan. I had an old cheap sander sitting doing nothing.






This is after a few minutes. I need to find something a little more abrasive.
Also need to make a base for it.
Happy it seems to be working though and only took an hour or so to make.

Has the log book come back from dvla? I have an 83 car which I was going to apply for historic status for. Is it just a case of handing in the v5 to the post office with a change in taxation class?
