  • Well, with the wind and rain outside I spent a few hours tinkering in the garage yesterday.

I picked up the locking plate for the oil pick-up pipe on Saturday, so that could go on with the windage tray.

It was good to finally get the sump on.

New water pump needed a lick of paint to bring up to standard.

Thanks for the offer of help Bo. This thing is starting to look pretty heavy again.

I need to get cracking on the head rebuild. Now, where's my valve spring compressor?

          • I'm hoping it will be ready for the Ring, but it hasn't been booked a place on the ferry in March. The evenings between now and then are too cold, dark and damp, and time at weekends is limited. But I do have 2 more trips planned for later in the year, so far. :mischeif:

Oil pick-up pipe, windage tray and a few other bits and pieces went in the dishwasher. I tried all asort of angles, but the sump just wouldn't quite go in there, so I had to finish cleaning that by hand.

            Did someone say curry?

            • Thanks to Sal for the various bits and pieces, my DSY gearbox swap is now pretty much complete.

Here’s why the DSY/B5 S4 gearbox mounts were no use. The gearbox must sit much higher relative to the subframe in an S4.
Good job Sal had the correct ones in stock.

                    • Are you going to install gearbox oil cooler?

I'm also going to use DSY box.

Yes. But I need to work out what space I have before I decide where.

Sorry Andy G, I've put too much work into those mirrors to make them look as crap as they do.

I thought about doing that, but I'll have to be careful, there's all sorts of bits and pieces buried in them.
