Is this gearbox really better than the s2 6 speed or an rs4 b5 6 speed? what pros and cons does it have?

I guess it depends how you define "better".
In terms of driving experience it is way better than the 01E.
The syncros are fragile. In terms of outright strength I suspect it is weaker.

I need to pull my finger out and get it the MD357 and Maxx ECU fitted. Will try and do it over the winter I think.

I've always had issues with my drivers door being hard to close never able to adjust it quite correctly. A couple months ago the door had dropped a few MM and started to creak and there was more wind noise, plus it started leaking.
I noticed some play in the hinge. So I got hold of a pair of hinges off a run-out cabrio passenger door from Colesy (cheers mate )

I dug the spray gun out and shot some lovely Panthero metallic at them:

Once I'd got the old hinges off it clear how royally ****ed the old lower hinge was

Fitted the replacement hinges and adjusted the door and window reg and it now works like a boss - closes easily and quietly
So I was feeling pleased and thought I'd give it a wash for the first time since ADI and go out for a drive. Sometimes it's the small, simple stuff that puts a big smile on your face

It's not too bad a job, took me longer to paint them than fit them
Well worth it though. I have a new OEM one to go on my ABY but TBH these cabrio passenger ones were like new.
The detent on the door is really stiff now, feels like a new car

Can I ask how did you adjust the glass on the door please The movement vertically to close the glass to the seal pilar side.
