    First stage (~£3400):

Turbo , Wagner EM, RS2 or ebay IC and XM, RS2 airbox, RS2 injectors, Bosch 044 fuel pump, Sachs clutch, 3 bar map sensor, generic map, labour

    Second stage (~£2000)

    Wagner reverse IM, IC, labour

    Third stage (~£2800)

Engine rebuild, SCAT rods, labour, custom remap
Just read back through this on page 1.

I love the way i've ended up doing the whole shebang anyway at a cost FAR in excess of that predicted.

    Got to love these cars

    • Clock that compressor housing to the right place hehe
Looking good, yeah lol at the spec and prices these cars are bad for you bigtime

      • I was just looking at some pics of mine to compare that compressor housing orientation. I had no problems fitting the lines, they should fit without modification. I had to reclock the hotside very slightly to get the coolant line to fit - turbo was already on the car, that was fun! The coldside should be pointing pretty much straight downward; again once mine was in position there was no contact with the coldside & EM.

Glad to see it coming together - new MAF and engine mounts should be up there tomorrow, along with your Finjector spacers.

And is that some porting on the EM I see? Trying to get the edge on me?? It will be interesting to see how RS2 ex cam and reverse IM compare. I still expect to win with my mental 2.1bar midrange though... benefits of a slight compression drop

I think they'll be pretty much like-for-like, i might technically be able to have the slight drop off the line, but as you say, you'd pull that back.

Just trying to think of the differences...

Mine - Wagner reverse IM and intercooler, big brakes to slow down

Yours - Stock rs2 IC and IM, ported IM, re-bored with lower compression.

Surely must be more? Yours really is sewn from the same seed, but more like the ugly avant love-child.

          • If Ross has lower compression he will be running more timing and will not be knock limited as much meaning more boost, the wagner stuff will promote lower IAT but on the road and at the power levels circa 400 bhp don't reckon it's a factor

In terms of power unfortunately big brother will have the edge, in terms of engine response the reverse IM and higher compression should make your car more nippy low to mid transition.

            • higher compression rules!!!
higher compression+ reverse inlet rules even more!!!

besides, on KKK turbos you'd still be able to make 2bar and drop off, without fear of knock with the higher comprssion.

i have read about quite a few projects running garrets and 2bar to the red line with 9:1 without knocking, and making good numbers.

              • That maybe true but for any given boost pressure the lower compression will allow more timing, if it's timing vs boost i'd take timing every time.

                • sure, that is the theory

in practice most cars i have read about, still use quite nice numbers in deg of timing with high compression and arent knock limited. maybe the differences are small in comp.ratio and therefore cannot tell the difference. however off boost higher compression is always noted... until you get used to it that is..! haha

                  • Just noticed the oil return line on the turbo goes into the sump extension reservoir, was that modified for that purpose rather than going to the block?

                    • That's standard on aircon cars Greg the aircon pump blocks the oil return hole on the block

                      • I never knew that, mine had an aftermarket aircon system fitted which went to the standard location so hadnt seen that before

                        • Looking great, Andy. You can't beat pictures of a shiny rebuilt I5T.

I like the look of the sump baffles and breather mods. That should be good for when the engine is taking a good hammering on track.

                            • Not too much to report from the last week or 2, the engine is just waiting to go in, the catch-tank sump-return system is in the process of being built, and the downpipe and new exhaust needs to go in... but that's about it.

Oh, and the ECU is off having some upgrades to work with ev14 injectors during run-in... should all be good to go within the next few weeks for the initial start-up and run-in before the remap

                              • I dropped by the garage where the car is last night to have some work done on my snotter so had a good chance to nose around the car - engine looks even more porno in the metal than it does in the photos. Car is going to need a serious clean when it's back together though!
