Finally done the big move, brought the car down south this monday, now sits outside work mocking me all day. Motivation right there.
Basically I threw the engine on its mounts, put the bonnet on and filled the car up with all the parts i have just to get it moved, nothing is final.
Now that i have easy access and a decent workshop (30000sqft hangar)I can get going again.
Made a plate for mounting 034ECU inside the dash. Plate is rivetted into the dash behind the trim panel so nothing can be seen from the outside, then the ECU is screwed into the plate with floating nuts and rubber isolators.
Tomorrow, need to sort out some storage space and have a clear out. then this weekend engine and box should be back in.

Heres some crappy phone pics of my "workshop".
Bits done today, made my hybrid prop, avant front and coupe rear.
What a ballache that was, read a how to on here but didnt expect all the needle bearings to fall out when i split the UJ, and destroyed a puller and some knuckles trying to get the yoke off, came in the end though with a combination of heat, freeze spray and hammers.
Result:
Pulled the engine out again today, much easier with a proper crane, although the pass side bolt sheared off in the mount.
More updates tomorrow.1994 URS4 Avant RS2+Comment

Awesome, that V8s going to sound great in there
Those yolks are a bitch to get off - I also ruined a puller on mine too, then I gripped it in the vice and leathered the **** out if it with a drift and a lump hammer

Do you think your workshop is quite big enough?
That will be great, you can take it for a test drive inside.
Those needle rollers are a *******, also a pain to but back together without them moving.Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon

short update:
not had much progress recently due to problems with flex plate insert from 034.
this was the reason I was having trouble earlier on with the engine locking up when bolted to the gearbox, originally thought it was the clutch PP hitting something inside the gearbox....
Their insert is designed around a certain thickness flexplate, and mine is lot thicker than the one it was designed for, even though it is an original ABZ and has the correct part number, just with an A suffix rather than the later B.
034 pretty much denied my flexplate existed and their support wasnt great....
When offered up to each other there was a .200" gap at the bolt hub like so, they should meet.
This extra 0.200" meant the pilot bearing was too far from the block and ended up bottoming out on the gearbox input shaft and thats what was locking the engine up.
Very frustrating, many hours spent scratching my head and removing and refitting.
So I had to have this bit machined back to the insert would fit deeper inside.
So had a friend of mine do just that tonight, and also balance the package with the clutch pressure plate.
Dont have a picture, its in the boot of my car and its raining.
Girlfriend has gone away for a couple of days so the plan is tomorrow to get the gearbox on and double check everything is as it should be, then get the funker in.
I did manage to get the remote filter plumbed up a while ago though, and had the engine turning over, forgot i ordered the housing with a drilling for a temp probe, had a lovely oil shower, but i know its primed now....
fingers crossed for tomorrow....1994 URS4 Avant RS2+Comment

I know, reason i ask is I fiited an ABZ 4.2 V8 unit to a 01x 6 speed manual box. Used Flywheel from 034motorsport with diesel clutch kit. I'm sure you could use the same one, clutch fork pivot needs spacing out in order to get the correct travel.
If you still need wiring pin outs for your engine i've got these, and settings if you went for VEMS ECU.Last edited by ian4455; 27 October 2011, 11:10.Comment

Are you "Hilly" from motorgeek by any chance?
034 only sell the OEM S8 flywheel now, and availablity is an issue, plus its 800 dollars. I believe they used to sell a fidanza unit, but it has been discontinued.
Im using an 034 IIc ecu, but you can send me your vems config file, may come in handy for setting base tune for fuel and ignition.
