Well, we get -20C in winter.
And no, not too thin at all. Could use 5w50 if driving it very hard...
But really, I have mapped so many of these now, and I have not seen issues during mapping on good quality 5W40 oil. And that's when you do many pulls in a row.
Usually when oil temps go high, it is because of persistent knock...
Perhaps in hot weather on the track your oil will get hotter, if so, I guess 5w50 could be used.
Oil pressure alone means very little anyway. If the oil is really thick, the pressure can be high, but that does not mean it is getting everywhere and lubricating everything.Comment

Yes, I have used 5w-40 now after the rebuild. Just normal Valvoline fully synthetic, no racing oil. Tomorrow I buy new oil and filter and check all easy things. Hope the noice is gone after the change. Luckily I'm just working in the night shift, can't sleep on something like this.

It's a divided #16 Holset T3 housing and the engine is a 2.2. 7A exhaust cam and AAN exhaus cam used as intake cam. Full boost at 4500rpm, starts building boost from ~2500rpm.

No, hade to made the timing by hand with a measure clock(or what is it called?). No I don't have exact measured data of the boost profile.

2 bar on iddle and almost 4 barafter 2000 rpm(there was loud big end sound) and found all 5 big ends gone.So most of the oil pres means nothing.
I saw an engine with less than 1 bar at iddle and no more than 2 bar at high rews that was making no ping.Comment

We were not talking about acceptable, good or best
The point was that an engine needs also flow not only pressure.
4 bar after 2000 rpm with bigend blowed and engine masiv pinging(i do not if that is the right english word to describe the sound for bearing failure) confirms the rule for me.
And i forgot:the blown engine had 10w60 in it so it had pressure.
And for the only 2 bar at rews i think the oilpump relief valve spring was gone but that was not my engine, not my client,no nothing.Comment
