  • We have had this discussion on another thread. Looks like idle has not much relevance than what the oil pressure does as rpm rise. My engine fully rebuilt has 1.4bar with 10w50 fuchs Titan, and gets swiftly to 4bar as early as 2000rpm. A lot of fully rebuilt engines from members are like that.

I am changing the sender and switch as well tomorrow to verify.

Just before the rebuild and with 100k kms from the previous rebuild I was having 2 to 2.5bar on idle and using the same oil pump ( now refurbed as well). But we noticed that Ola had a slightly crushed check valve previously. Don't know if it was causing the higher pressure reading though.

I will report in the weekend of how the pressure behaves.

Yes, I have done that. Idle pressure is almost same as on the stock gauge, on high rpm's the stock gauge shows about 0,5 bar to low.

It was not possible to increase much the size of the vent without changing the valve and ring, only 34mm -> 35mm but I made some other improvements(I hope ) in the shape...
thats what i like to hear Thomas, a productive night shift!!...:mischeif:

        • Haha, Mike you know, you have to do something or you fall in sleep.

Soon engine start, have only to fit the radiator and IC. Just bought a can of Valvoline VR1 Racing 5w-50 oil. Propably the hot oil pressure wil be 0,5-1bar higher than with the old oil, just like before when I changed the oil. Well, I really hope the knockin noise is gone.

                • I was wrong, it was not the lifter noise. Seems that I need to strip the bottom end.

Havn't had time to do anything to the car at the previous week. Just changed the bimmer also, and the exchange has got all attention... Pic of the new ride: Klick!

                          • No wonder why the engine had a little strange noise... maybe the oilpressure wasn't enough after all? :corey:

                              • correction,
just noticed that you were seeing 1.5bar warm and 3.5-4bar on higher revs.

that cannot be the only reason for the damage and the noise.
other cars have similar pressures, esp on idle and run ok.

could there be a blockage in the oil feeds somewhere?
