      • Painted the bumper a bit more on Sunday. Still needs final sand back and final coat. Not sure if I'm happy with colour, I think it needs to be more white I feel.uploadfromtaptalk1433880399176.jpguploadfromtaptalk1433880415627.jpg

              • Hello guys,
Not a very successful bank holiday weekend on the S2!
Despite putting two days aside to get some work done on it the weather had other ideas
I did however manage to break something well technically two things.
I wanted to remove the mirrors in order to start some prep work on them. So between the rain I went to undo the bolts holding them in place but they did not want to budge so soaked them in penetrating fluid for a few hours and tried again.

                N/S -
This time one undone easily but the other one did not although the mirror is now off the car. The captive nut has sheered off and also seems to have damaged the metal around it.
                O/S -
Both bolts snapped off with barely any force so now stuck with drilling them out and re-tapping although Im concerned that there is not enough metal to do this or space in the mirror's mount to fit a larger bolt.

Can anyone suggest a solution? I have been thinking about welding in a new plate to bolt the mirrors too but not sure about access.

Another option is weld up the holes in the wing with a plate with a new captive nut/s to allow me to mount carbon race mirrors or something like engelmann mirrors for a more 'track' look that will match the car when its finally finished.

                • I'd go for the last option if I was in your situation. More work but a great excuse to get rid of the " donkeys ears " wing mirrors

                  Great project btw

                  • Not sure which ones would look good though,
These are Engelmann type mirrors (not in great condition

                    Or something like these?

                    • I say keep with the track theme and go with the motamec's. The Skoda 130r's are good but maybe a little too subtle.
Have been keeping an eye on this project as I too have a red coupe, keep up the good work.

                      • To be fair for £35 you cant go wrong really!
I may not get fake carbon though and get plain ones.
My car isnt staying red but going white, either painted (DIY) or vinyl wrapped again DIY

As they were off I thought I'd paint the manifold and rocker cover with VHT.

                            Need new injector seats now.

                            • Roose cooling hoses in apart from two today. Not really sure where one goes but I'm sure it will be apparent when the rest of the cooling system in put back in.
