  • They appear to have fixed my leaking windscreen by re fitting it. However, whilst pouring large amounts of water over my car to test it, I seem to have found another leak. This time the sunroof. I took the track rail off when I did the headliner and obviously didn’t seal it up properly. So, this time I decided to go the full monty and take it all off to make sure it was well sealed.
I got a shock when I removed the front rail.
    Rust!

A small job has just turned into a big one.

    • Rust cleaned off. Treated with converter and a coat of electrox zinc.

      • Make sure your drain tubes down the a pillar are clear... I had a leak through my sunroof caused by water draining slowly through the tube, it backed up and filled the sunroof recess up to the point where it got through the line of sealant between the body shell and mechanism.

Resealing is clearly part of the solution but slow draining out through the tubes needs to be sorted as well as one day it might stop draining and your water will still get in!

Big thumbs up for bilt hamber electrox. Used it a fair bit and properly clean steel it protects on its own for years and that can only get better with a top coat. Love it.

The drains are nice and clean. I pushed some old vac hard tube down each one and watched them poke out. I do seem to have lost my drip tray in the back somewhere. I will have to try and fish it out somehow.
Yes, I am a big Bilt fan. I used their blue rust converter after wire brushing to convert anything I had missed and will top coat with their two pack chassis paint to finish off. I have ordered some neoprene strip to use to re seal under the runners.

          • The drip tray had detached itself and was at the back of the recess.
I made two long drip tray retrieval tools using old vac pipes and fish hooks taped on the ends.

And with a little help from Newsh, got it all connected.
Now just waiting for the paint to dry and put it all back together.

            • A little job that went to plan for a change.
The rear nearside door window wasn’t sitting right. The top no longer presses against the gasket. The door adjustment looks ok, just the window frame not quite right. Having some spare doors here I was able to have a play and found that the window frame is adjustable by four bolts, covered by the door card.

I loosened the bolts and pulled the frame up a few mm.

All sorted and now nice and flush at the top.

                • Everything went to plan with the sunroof until the final hurdle. One of the cover clips broke.

                  Anyone have a spare?

                            • My side trims are corroded and looking rough.

The front ones are very easy to remove. Two screws top and two bottom. The rears are a little more difficult, with three rivets. I carefully drilled them out with 3.5mm drill.

The front trims are steel. The rear are aluminium. I had to use a special primer for the aluminium.

They were painted last week when it was sunny.

I took the opportunity to clean the window seals out really well. They were very grubby.

I used stainless steel rivets taking care not to damage my new paint.

                              All done.

You may be wondering why my back seat is up and the wires exposed. I’m in the process of fitting a relay on the fuel pump.
