Newsh kindly lent me a spare relay. Unfortunately, I still have the same issue. I have ordered a new after run thermo switch. Hopefully that will sort the issue. I’m not looking forward to changing it as it’s a bit tight in there!
Yesterday I had a very good trip to my local breakers. That has a very early B5 saloon and I managed to salvage some really useful parts.
A friend had asked me to look out for rear leather seats for a saloon. Apparently they are quite rare so he was very pleased when I got these (for a very good price).
So today I’ve been in the garage fitting some of the bits I found. Windscreen washer pipes, a door lock button, brake pipe holders on the fire wall x2.
It was very sad to see the car at the breakers as it looked mint with no rust or damage. Think it was a 1.8 petrol. Had full black leather and wood trims. If anyone is interested, all the door cards are still there.

I still have electrical gremlins!
I re connected the battery to start testing the circuits and the fan wasn’t running at all. So, I had a fiddle with all the connections to see if I had something loose, but still nothing. A couple of hours later, the fan came on again, all on its own.
So, while it was running and ignition off I pulled relay 3 and 11 one at a time and tried swapping them over. Relay 3 stopped the fan. Relay 11 made no difference. Tried a new relay in 3. No change. So, I then disconnected the two spade connectors on the after run thermo switch. Made no difference, fan still running. If I pull the big control relay under the dash, fan stops.
Any suggestions?

Found a brilliant clear and understandable write up by UrS4boy on this subject so heading back to the garage armed with my multi meter and a large mug of tea.

The sensors test ok so its wiring or relay 324. Anyone else going through this issue should remember to wait for ten minutes between each test as the after run fan/pump is programmed to run on for 10 mins. I didn't wait so had to do all my tests again

Sure that AfterRun Relay is broken...
I see same malfunction on some cars (ABY, ADU and AAN)
PS: See too if Becker radio has rear out w/o Amp. Maybe was the rear speakers no sound problem.
My avant has amplified rear speakers and no problem with all standar radios.photobucket SUCKS

Just a quick update.
I haven’t done much to the car recently. I’m still waiting for my slot at the paint shop. Apparently, a couple of people who crashed their cars on the recent ice we had have jumped the queue? How is that fair?
Anyway, my Mrs recently visited her folks in Scotland and collected another part for me from Rizzono1.
The off side rear trim under the back window I had was damaged. It looked ok but wasn’t 100%.
The old one out.
I had to swap some of the insulation over.
Then all fitted nicely.
Called over to see my friend who did my engine. I love these home made twisters.
He is a greedy guy as he has three UR’s and won’t sell me one!
