I’m still waiting for the sprocket. It’s coming from Audi Tradition via a friend in Germany. Hopefully tomorrow.
In the meantime, another friend lent me a leak down tester.
And........good news. All cylinders are testing good.

Started first turn of the key.
I took her for a short drive. After about 1/2 mile the abs light came on.
I have a few other small issues to sort before mot time.
Bonnet wouldn’t open again!
Oil pressure light is stuck on full pressure even when fully up to temp.
After run fan and pump appear to be working correctly as is the normal fan.
Engine pulls strong and smooth. Really hard to keep it in the running in range below 3k revs!

Thanks to Newsh, I have Vagcom.
Pulled the codes 00287 - rear right ABS intermittent and 00537 - Lambada control limit exceeded.
The rear abs sensors are new. I pulled the rear right one out, re greased it and pressed it in again. Maybe it wasn't fully home. The rings are new as well.
I'm not sure about the lambada code. Could that be oil being burnt off? The car was running nicely.
Re the bonnet. I wish I never removed the strike pins as I think they are either too long or too short. Could someone measure the length for me please? The wire is nice and tight.Nothelle S2 Avant

Glad it’s up and running , it will be the horizontal positioning that will be the cause of the problem , if the pins are too short the bonnet won’t shut and to long then you will be able to lift the bonnet up a bit when shut, you just adjust them to match the bonnet to the top of your wings

Procedure for checking the sender (G10) on the side of the engine block - MB and RR engines:
Remove the connector from the oil pressure sender G10 contact "G".
Connect an ohmmeter to contact G on G10 via an extension cable and to chassis ground.
Switch the ohmmeter to the 200 ohm range.
With the engine off, the reading should be 5 to 10 ohms.
With the engine idling, the reading should be 70 to 120 ohms.
With the engine at 3000rpm, the reading should be 170 to 200 ohms.
Attach the ohmmeter between contact WK (unused) on G10 and chassis ground.
With the engine idling, the resistance should be zero to 0.5 ohm.
With the engine off, the resistance should be infinite.
If any of the preceding tests fail, replace G10. The tests should then be repeated, since it is possible for the PTFE tape now used on new sender threads to interfere with electrical conductivity to the block, which is used as the return circuit.1989 Audi 80 Quattro
