There is no difference between B5 S4 and the B5 2.5 TDI linkage. Same body shell, same gearbox style.
I have no first hand experience yet, but from what I have read:
    - V6 front driveshafts should be a straight fit with S2 hubs (lucky for me) otherwise gearbox flanges can be swapped from the original box (I already have a 01E 5spd)
    - gearbox is about 25mm longer, so the prop shaft needs to be shortened
    - V6 subframe should be good for the 6 spd, otherwise there can be a 40mm spacer needed on one of the gearbox mounts
    - gear linkage should be shortened by 40mm

Not to thread hijack here but if anyone is looking for more compiled info I have put together this and I am always looking for more answers to add.

Did you mean that the B5 S4 V6 front axles will fit the 6spd 01E into S2 hubs, B4 chassis?
I've had some 100mm A4 B5 diff flanges turned down 3mm but would like to retain 108mm if possible

From what I have read (German forums) is that the B4 V6 front axles are a direct fit to the DQT box.

I would assume without checking that splines will be the same, our only concern might be axle length if flanges are of desired size.
I will report what I find with B5 to B4 in my thread.

            Thanks

Completely missed this before when you said B4 V6 front axles are a direct fit.

Indeed B5 S4 front axles are no where near fitting in the B4 hubs! They are also far too long

Ordered the Epytec gearbox mounts to put a 01E in the 80. Asked them and they are RS2 equivalent.

I am looking to buy a FTF (=DQT) 01E diesel gearbox in Germany. They qoute shipping at 300 euro for a 600 euro gearbox.
So I am going to pick it up myself. This is a 260km one way trip...

Need to decide to replace the front drive shaft flanges or get B4 V6 non-quattro axles.

Picked up the FTF 01E gearbox (VW Passat 3BG 4-motion V6 TDI) today at Koch Autoteile (vr6_autoteile on eBay) near Osnabruck.
                    Excellent seller.

The drive shafts sound very interesting, but wouldn't shipping to Holland spoil the deal a bit?

                        • No problem. I can find out for you, might not be too bad, I don't want a huge amount for them as their just taking up space.

                                Brand new from Autewo.

When the whole driveline is getting an overhaul the will be fitted.
Just need to gather some more parts to go and start the process.
