I just read all 32 pages of your project. YOU ARE THE MAN FOR DOING THIS!!!!!!
I think it is sooo amazing that you are building an rs2 down to every single parts. This really takes a lot of patience and sanity haha.
Every now and then i am in Charlotte NC, and I would love to come see your project.

Tom,
Just brought myself up to date on the thread.
Can't stop mouthing O M G as I scroll.
The photos look like a set of factory pictorial reference photographs of how an RS2 goes together.
When it the car is finished, consider posting a new complimentary thread to this one of all the photos in chronological order, no need for comments or titles, just the photos, and it can be used as a multi purpose elixir for all B4 addicts to regain their equilibrium everytime they need to visually inject an intravenous boost of how it's done. I know it would lift my mood by just scolling through it, whenever I wanted a buzz / rush.
And also it would withstand scrutiny as a quality pictorial reference guide, for all of us now and everyone in the future, that have yet to discover (R)S2s/B4s.
Mods should make the pictorial thread a locked sticky straightaway.
What Fish said, "you're the man", keep doing it for all of us, and not just your wife, lol.
Now I want to visit Georgia when I win the Lotto.
Impatiently waiting for my next fix as you progress.
Kind regards.Comment

I hit a small snag a couple of weeks back now. For some reason I thought that i could use the harness for the outer rear lights from a saloon on my avant. I forgot that the saloon does not have a rear wiper.
So I gave Tots a call and one is on the way now and should hopefully be here by next week.
I finally acquired the correct steering column and got it installed last night. The lock cylinder from the old green parts car then was attached. I took the key and checked functionality.
I then decided to install one of the front door handles, which had just recently been painted. Everything went fine until the end when I took the same key from the steering column and attempted to lock the door. No go.
At this point I'm really confused. The steering lock and all the door locks were from the same car so they should have worked. It appears that somewhere along the way the car's steering column was changed. Do these things only happen to me?
I knew what I had to do.....rekey the door locks.
Not a difficult task, but a tedious one. I dug out several orphaned lock cylinders and pulled them apart, taking the little tumbler pins. From here it's just a matter of one by one trying the pins until you get the right combination that allows the cylinder to rotate. I cheated on a couple by filing them down to where they were flush with the cylinder.
About an hour later I had them finished. Glad that's over.

I ran accross this post when you first stated and then forgot about it. Your attention to detail is impressive! I can't say I'd every go through this much to have an RS2, but I'd almost certainly have owned an RS2 or S2 Avant if we had gotten them. Too bad the S2/RS2 was made during Audi's dark days in the US!Comment

Sorry to be so long between posts. My wife and I are now overdue for a new baby boy. It looks like they will induce this Wednesday.
I had a chance to play with the car today and have been working on the wiring, which is why there have not been any pretty pictures posted. This is boring monotonous stuff. Anyway, I had a couple of questions........
Can anyone tell me or better yet post a picture of where these four relay mount?

Also, how in the world does the central harness mount? It's been to long since I took it out I've forgotten.
Pics would be great on this also. Right hand drive is OK. I can flip the pics in photoshop.

Wiring is my thang so happy to help where at all possible Tom - even if some 4000 miles away...
Have you seen this before --> http://www.s2central.net/S2_Schemati...tic_Primer.pdf - look at page 10
That relay 324 looks like afterrun pump controller - so thats aux position 14.
The others look generic from here so you'll have to help me with wire colours, plus I can see what modules you already have in place so I bit of reverse engineering required. Could be security related too - what model year is the source loom from - send me privately if you prefer on that stuff.Paul Nugent

@Tom - ping an email to S2central@me.com as there is another incomplete document I can share with you... Would also be good to know if you have manual aircon or digital climate system - the relay in #4 changes depending on the variant.Paul Nugent

Something to check - that 281 module in position 12... my info is that a 281 is a bulb monitor for autocheck in position 15 and that the buzzer (lights or radio ON with key removed) is number 292 in position 12. My info is maybe specific to RHD so may not be relevant here.Paul Nugent
