            On with my knocking noises.

Got the car back after replacing the steering pump and the rear bearing.

I now get a knocking noise coming from the front end of the engine when is up to temperature, on idle and becomes intermittently loud and metallic when I turn the steering wheel lightly to the right!!

I have checked the belts, power steering is normal, oil pressure and engine behaviour is normal, the sound is not evident on normal cruising or driving, however I get to listen to it when parking the car or manoeuvring on low engine speeds.

It's rythmic as if it's coming from one of the pulleys.

            Anyone ever had something similar?

You have air-con right? Is it anything to do with the clutch for that? Try putting the air-con on and see if it goes away?

                  Couldn't see anything touching anywhere.
Air con I haven't checked but is always off on tests.

I did align the carbon cover which is touching here and there. Unfortunately my clips are mostly gone so I need to find the parts and get them again. I actually had to use carefully a tire up on one side so that it doesn't touch everywhere.

With a cold engine testing today it was quiet after I aligned the carbon timing cover

Thinking about it I had this once with a cracked alternator mounting bracket. I thought the bottom end had gone. It was just rhythmically knocking on the block.

Just ordered from audi tradition the timing belt back cover which comes with the clips! At least that aspect of rubbing and annoying noises will be sorted.

                          Ok so far things bought:

                          Temperature sensors
                          Engine-gearbox mounts
                          Rear poly bushes
SS all around inserts for the adjustable suspension
                          Billet steering mount
Tie rods and small consumables to change if needed.
                          Rear drop links

Engine gasket sets as well as rod and main bearings just in case. (Need to find kolben schmidt piston rings for 81.50mm pistons. )
Engine oil (need to order gearbox oil).
                          Rear subframe galvanised

Plan will be to drop suspension engine and gearbox
                          Check-over the underbody and re-insulate
Replace and fabricate rusted parts where not available.
                          Re-spray engine bay and car
                          Put all new parts on

                          Let's see how it goes...

Latest stuff bought from various sources...

Fuel gauge sender from audi tradition 87£ delivered!!!

Center console where the handbrake resides for 100ish £ and it doesn't even have the black carpet for the hole.

I have bought 2 Center console for the switches that have come with the Clima fitting used from eBay and the bottom console without the extra gauges that I will need to do the double din retrofitting.

As the A4 B5 was coming with the same climatronic I found a faceplate of that car which I could use to cut and match it to the clima mounting points. I am hoping that once everything is in place I can send these parts to Aron for carbon covering and match it to the rest of the dash.

I also got this from Brian

As well as the rear ARB mounting points also galvanised. So that covers both subframe being galvanised. RARB is not looking very nice but if I don't have such facilties in Greece I might just refurbish it for now and galvanise that later.

I also had someone leave a message on my dash expressing interest in buying the car and looking at prices online in Europe I can see that these cars are now spreading from 20000 to 76000€

Original low mileage cars for collectors are nice to buy and stick them in a garage to drive once a year, and then there are cars like mine, driven everyday and besides body parts that are obsolete, everything else is replaceable and it runs beautiful... Maybe I should consider seeing if there is any interest out there....!

This part is most precious at the moment as it's NLA and not reproduced from audi tradition nor can it be found on ebay...
