UrS4 2.2T Avant project

  • Well, now we have snow here, so the winter is officially here.

    Finally I got the turboshaft from balancing and the car is now in running condition. Have only to change the upper control arms in the rear and then bring the car for a MOT test. Must also remember to change the coolant, it's only water inside now. The car started really well with Dmitri's E85 map in ~18C degrees temp in the garage. Fun to see how it fires up in -10 degrees...

          • The rear control arms was quite easy to change, so now is everything ready for driving.



            Well, tried MOT test today. The emissions was a close case. Have to run the engine a bit with more rpm's so the cat warmed up and finally the emissions passed the limits.

            But, but... the MOT didn't pass. Changed engine parts!!! Not allowed to a low emission car.

              • Well, that is a little bit gray area with finnish MOT. In theory you can't do anything to a low emission car/engine without a really expencive and big emission test at a governant engine lab. Usually the MOT test people ignore the changes with these old cars. Well, this is not the first build audi here... and all the japs nissans etc...

                In my case, I think it was the big Holset that caught his attention. Maybe if I fit a stock kkk on the manifold, until the MOT is finished... lol.

                • Same here in Sweden, its more of à lottery, if you have à clean build and The MOT guys is in à good mood, everything works

                      • Read through the whole project thread now, nice job! As on the MOT, I'm lucky enough to have a pre 87 car so the emission rules are a bit more free.

                        • That sucks Did the MOT person say/point out what particular seems to be changed in the car by his/hers opinion? Feels like an russian roulette to have a MOT through novadays.

                          • How are the AFR's and things with the E85? I hope not too rich...
                            I am glad it started okay. Just keep the Narrowband O2 sensor connected and if possible at the start try to make longer trips so you don't get the glazing problem like last time and oil consumption.
                            Also, I have not the slightest idea how it will start in -10C because I just made some guesses as to the cold start enrichment maps...
                            I hope it will start, but I can't promise anything, as the combination of injectors and fuel type is not something I have mapped before...

                              Idle/2000 rpm
                              CO 0.28/0.30
                              CO2 14.7/14.7
                              O2 0.42/0.38
                              HC 0066/0047
                              Lambda 1.009/1.007

                              Havn't tested to start it yet in cold weather. Must leave it overnight to cool down...

                              It was propably the turbo that was the key question in this matter. Maybe I try another MOT place or then I fit a stock turbo...
