Found a pic of the spark plugs from the previous engine. These was after hard beating, some wet oil in the threads, a lot of carbon build up, fugly color. Something wrong here?

They look identical to the JE's I had. What happened to the car???? haven't looked at this thread in a while did you have an engine failure?

Not exactly, it burned a massive amount of oil and that made a lot of trouble.

So are these Ross Racing items made from 4032 or similar lower thermal expansion alloy?

Alex, no, thay are 2618 alloy... should hold under great "pressure" Don't know how much the pinns can take, they are 22mm though, and lightened. This kit was made back in 05 and have been laying around in a shelf since that. Got them really cheap. I want ot modify the top, mill off a bit to make higher CR, so I was in contact to Ross and they told I could safely take off 3,7mm of the piston top land. With 155mm rods I would take less, but either way that mean I have to mill off the block also. Have to measure the block before anything, if it's sligly more than 236mm(like 236,6mm or something) then I may go with 159mm rods. Ok, so first failure... smell of burnt oil... quick look under the bonnet... wut? funny location for the breather outlet..? soo, it's a bit loose then...

How much oil did the old engine used? Did you see smoke will driving or only at startup?

If memory serves me right it ate 1 liter of oil in about 40 km. It did smell of oil and exhaust were very sooty when I saw the car.

Yeah, a lot. On WOT it burnt less, propably because boost forced rings tighter to the walls. On baby drive the consumption was quite enormous. Yes, there was usually some smoke at stertup but when the engine heated up there was not visible smoke on idle. But when driving in normal traffic usually you could see a blue cloud behind you.
