Yes its clubman 500, did you get it from Elmdon Metals?

Got a good bit more done on it today.

The dash bar was made, and the cross between the rear struts. Then the whole lot was welded up as it was only tacked in yesterday.

A few of the welds just need a little tidy up, remove a little of the splatter but its all looking good.

Lots more bars to go in yet should have it all sorted by next weekend!

      • Yes I got it from Elmdon Metals very speedy delivery and very helpfull almost went for the T45 but weighing up cost and weight saving decided to go for the Clubman 500

        • There is no weight saving with the T45 but it would be a good bit stronger.

Great service and advice from Elmdon i must agree!

          • With the T45 because it is stronger you can use a thinner walled tube thus saving weight but it's working how thin you can go and problems with scrutineering because it is a one off bespoke cage

            • You can only go thinner on the wall tube if its an homologated cage as far as i am aware. If you just slap in 1.5mm wall thickness then you are breaking the rules in the blue book.

I discussed this with the fella from Elmdon Metals and he said that was true. The T45 he was going to sell me would have been 2.5mm wall thickness to meet the blue book regs. You would end up with a far stronger cage however. Just at megga cost!

              • Been working through the remaining bars.

Got the ones done that link the main hoop to the rear turrets, the roof diagonal is also done but not in the pics. Door bars currently underway!

                • are you using 38mm CDS or 45mm CDS???
Cage is coming along nicely mate! I spoke to P&P when they were making up your kit but decided the cost of a custom cage frrom them was over 3times what i can build it myself for... just lacking a tube notcher at the moment.

T45 is a lighter material but is harder to bend into shape so is a specialist material really.

Its 2" OD the tube i am using so about 52mm.

How are you going to bend the tube for your cage then? There is no way it can be bent without a mandrel bender. I have tried!

Its not true that T45 is lighter as far as i am aware, its only lighter as you can get away with using a thinner wall as its far stronger. But then I was told you can just throw thinner wall tube into your car. As its going against what the blue book says of having a 2.5mm wall thickness if 45mm OD, or 2mm if 2" OD.

I am pretty sure the cages you can buy in T45 with thinner wall thickness have to be homologated to show there strength.

                    • Right then, a few more pictures.

The master cylinders have turned up with the pedal box.

                      My new handbrake also arrived

                      • A bit more done on the cage. The passenger side door bar is now finished off. The harness bars are in the cross. The front brace has been made and the links forwards to the turrets are half way there. So the cage should be nicely finished off with a good day tomorrow!

Cage welds can't be ground down otherwise the scrutineer will fail the car. During construction the ground areas can be welded over though.

                              • Delete this post (wrote down long post, before noticing, that you don't use vertical tubes for additional driver protection), coz' I cannot find how to delete post myself
